Custom wide plank flooring

Custom hardwood flooring

Whether we start with standing timber, client provided logs, or kiln dried lumber, we can achieve your forest to the floor goal!

The custom flooring that we make is branded as Ridgefield Rustic Road. It’s a completely customizable process to fit each client’s project.

Logs are loaded onto our truck and brought back to our mill.

Logs are then milled on our woodmizer band saw mill.

The lumber is stacked and "stickered" (Lumber is stacked on sticks) — this allows for even airflow for proper drying.

Lumber is then loaded into the kiln where it will be dried to 6-9% Depending on the moisture content of the lumber, this process could take 1-2 months.

Thanks to strategic mill partnerships across the USA we are able to source just about any lumber possible. If what you want isn't listed below, call or email us. We've milled all sap sorts, all heart sorts, all cathedral grain sorts. We've been to lumber school, We've been buying lumber for over 35 years and know where the best lumber comes from! We buy our red oak, white oak, walnut, hickory, maple and cherry by the truck load from the mills producing the best products.

Once the species, lengths and widths are chosen, the lumber is ripped on our gang ripsaw to provide uniformly width boards ready to be moulded into flooring.

The moulder sizes the lumber on 4 sides and moulds the tongue and groove on the sides. The flooring is then defected.

The end matcher adds a tongue and groove to each end of the floor board.

The flooring is bundled and packaged ready for delivery (check out those long lengths!)

The flooring is delivered.

The unmatched benefits of custom wide plank flooring

Why choose custom wide plank hardwood flooring over traditional narrow planks? Here’s what makes it a superior choice:

  • Enhanced natural beauty: With fewer seams and wider boards, the unique grain patterns, knots, and natural variations in the wood take center stage. This adds depth, character, and an organic feel to your space.
  • Expansive and open feel: Wide planks create a more seamless look, making rooms feel larger, more open, and less cluttered.
  • Timeless appeal: Hardwood floors never go out of style, but wide plank flooring carries a historic charm that enhances both traditional and modern homes.
  • Unrivaled durability: Our hardwood planks are sourced from premium-grade wood, ensuring they withstand daily wear while maintaining their elegance. With the right finish and maintenance, they’ll last for decades.
  • Fully customizable: We offer a variety of hardwood species, finishes, stains, and textures, allowing you to create a look that perfectly suits your home’s design. Whether you prefer the rich tones of walnut, the inviting warmth of oak, or the sleek sophistication of maple, we have options to match your vision.

Choose your custom hardwood flooring

Custom hardwood flooring opens up a world of possibilities. With so many choices, you can create a floor that fits your home, personality, and needs. Here’s what you’ll decide:

  1. Wood species: Every species of hardwood brings its own charm and personality. Oak is a classic choice with a versatile grain pattern, while maple offers a smooth, contemporary look. Want something exotic? Consider cherry or walnut statement. Each species has unique durability, color, and texture, so we’ll help you pick the best match for your lifestyle and taste.

  2. Engineered vs. solid hardwood: When it comes to hardwood, the choice between engineered and solid is key. Solid hardwood is traditional, crafted from a single piece of wood, and can be refinished multiple times. Engineered hardwood, on the other hand, offers excellent stability and resists changes caused by humidity. If your home has radiant heating or is prone to moisture, engineered might be the smarter pick.

  3. Unfinished vs. prefinished hardwood: Here’s where you get to decide how much control you want over the final look. Unfinished hardwood lets you customize the stain and finish to perfection right in your home. Prefinished hardwood, however, comes with a factory-applied finish, saving time and hassle during installation. Both options have their perks, and it all depends on your timeline and vision.

  4. Grade: The grade of wood affects the floor’s overall appearance. Clear grade is clean and uniform, showcasing the natural beauty of the wood. Select grade has slight variations, adding character. Rustic or cabin grade features more knots and imperfections for a lived-in, charming vibe. Think about the atmosphere you want your space to have when choosing a grade.

  5. Width: Wide planks can make a room feel spacious and grand, while narrow planks create a traditional, classic feel. Want something in between? Medium-width planks offer balance and versatility. The width you choose impacts how your flooring interacts with your space, so consider your room’s size and style.

  6. Texture: Texture adds personality to your floors. Smooth floors are sleek and modern, while wire-brushed or hand-scraped finishes bring depth and charm. If you love the look of aged floors, distressed hardwood offers a timeworn aesthetic. The texture you select can enhance the mood of your home.

  7. Color, stain, and finish: This is where your creativity shines. Light, natural tones can brighten a room, while dark stains add drama and elegance. A matte finish gives a contemporary feel, while a glossy finish adds a touch of luxury. Whatever you imagine, we’ll help you find the perfect combination.

  8. Pattern: Herringbone, chevron, or straight planks—what’s your style? Patterns can make your floor the star of the room. Whether you want something bold or timeless, we’ll show you pattern options to complement your home’s aesthetic.

  9. Wood vents: Details matter, and wood vents blend seamlessly into your floors. Choose from flush or drop-in styles for a polished, cohesive look. These small touches elevate your custom flooring project.
